Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Best Bookish Memories

Top Ten

A meme from the Broke and the Bookish.

Today’s topic: Top Ten Best Bookish Memories

1. Robin McKinley replying to my tweets about her books when I was doing a project on her in Spring 2011.  I nearly squealed out loud in the middle of a lecture because I saw it in class.  This was the first one:

(Side note if you missed it I did recently change my twitter to @300pages!)

2. This is a weird one because it was a spoiler but it was just such a wonderfully bookish moment.  I was working at ECU’s summer theatre in 2005 and a friend had preordered Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.  I had not but I went with her to the midnight event to pick it up and so I was the one that she woke in the wee hours of the morning when she was sobbing and she told me that Dumbledore had died.

3. This is a vaguer memory but especially earlier on in the series I rejoiced at the ability to sit down and read the books in a single go.  The Harry Potter books were renowned for being so big but I actually have read them in a single go more than almost any other author other than Tamora Pierce.

4. My first signed book was Each Little Bird That Sings by Deborah Wiles.  We read it for class and then I attended NCSLMA and she was there.  It was my first in person contact with an author whose book I had read.

5. My first ARC was The Kneebone Boy by Ellen Potter.  It was absolutely thrilling to have something before I felt like I should.  It definitely helped that I ended up greatly enjoying the book.

6. In 2011, I went to ALA in New Orleans.  I got ARCs and signed books.  I got to see some of the best minds in Science Fiction and Fantasy have a conversation.  I had a blast with my mother.  We simply could not take it all in.  It was fabulous.

7. NaNoWriMo 2012.  I won!  It was the most I had written on a project, not counting revisions in a very long time.  Now you should all shame me for the fact that I have not worked on it sense.  I am kind of stuck until I find a solution for something.

8. I was pretty awkward as a kid.  I literally walked into walls because I read walking through the halls.  I had a wonderful school librarian, but my favorite bookish memory is in the 4th grade I was reading the Redwall series and whatever book was sitting on the corner of my desk.  The new boy saw it and commented and though we were never very close Tyler and I were friends through high school and we still greet each other if we are both home.

9. When I was in fifth grade there was a group of friends that we all wrote.  Some of our stories even overlapped.  That year was not the best but what followed still makes me grin.  Robynn and I kept writing.  Sometimes we just consulted, other times we even cowrote.  I miss that.

10. I also love book blogging.  Even if I quit doing posts like this I can’t imagine not blogging about every book I read for the rest of my life.  I wish I had started it sooner.  I wish I had become more aware of the book blogging culture sooner, but I am so glad that I am here now.

I love keeping a record of all the books I read and what I thought about them. Even if nobody ever reads it, I will know it is there. I was it for my own personal record.

I loved reading your list and it made me think of loads of my own memories that I didn’t even think of while writing my list!

    Thanks!
