Booking Through Thursday: Re-Reading Changes
A meme from Booking Through Thursday.
Today’s topic is “I’ve asked before if you re-read your books (feel free to recap), but right now I want to know if that habit has changed? Did you, for example, reread more as a child and your access to new books was limited by how often you could convince your mother to take you to the library? Has the economy affected your access so that you’re forced to reread more often now? Have you grown to look at old books as old friends so that you’re happy to spend time with them rather than rushing the next new thing?
And, just to give you something to think about, here’s an interesting blog post about this very thing.
And here’s the relevant passage:
This week, I’ve been doing something I never, ever, ever, ever do. Or at least not since I was kid, when I did it all the time because I didn’t think I’d ever run out of time and there seemed to be a limited number of books. I’ve been re-reading a favorite novel of 2013.”
I did re-read more when I was younger. I didn’t really have a lack of access, but I was picky. I read more new things in Elementary School. My biggest repeat periods were in Middle and High School. I read some new things but not a lot. I have always reread Tamora Pierce’s books, more than anything else. In college I did a lot more buying, than reading. There was still some more reading, but not that much. Now I’ve tried to not re-read as much because I am trying to catch up on all those things I bought. Most things I re-read now are things I haven’t read since before the blog or series that I need to remember what happened. I like rereading, it is part of why I have weeded out many of the books I was less excited about reading.
