Dingo by Charles de Lint
Obviously a quick read, this little number came to my attention simply because an intriguing good buy on Amazon. We get so used to having chapters that it is almost dangerous when they are removed. Miguel is just a pretty normal high schooler until Lainey walks into his dad’s store with her unique dog. They bring with them magic from Australia, they are twin sisters and they are both dingos. Shapeshifting is not the only magic that is thrown at Miguel and the reader, there is also the ever confounding magic of true love as it strikes you instantaneously. There is an efficiency to the writing and not just in the fact that only a few days pass. A picture is painted without any distractions or extraneous details. An enjoyable though brief trip.
