Miss Rumphius story and pictures by Barbara Cooney
I grew up reading this book but I had forgotten she was a librarian until my mother reminded me recently. So of course I had to go back and read it. I have always loved Barabara Cooney’s books and her illustrations are enchanting. I wish I could remember what made me love it so much as a child. Was I aware of the magic of possibility proposed? Okay I will admit she is presented as the little old maid librarian who keeps the books shelved. It makes me think about my own life. What is the point? I mean sure I am tempted to spread lupine seeds across my college campus but that is not original. What can I do to make the world more beautiful?
