Top Ten

A meme from the Broke and the Bookish.

Today’s topic:  Top Ten Favorite Characters In X Genre

I spend so much time in fantasy that I figured I would give you guys some variety and go with picture books.  Names link to my post if there is one, titles go to Goodreads!  I wanted pictures of the character so I looked for art other than the cover when necessary.

1. Iktomi (Iktomi and the Boulder by Paul Goble)

2. The Rough-Face Girl (The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Martin and David Shannon)

3. Anno (Anno’s Journey by Mitsumasa Anno)

4. Miss Rumphius (Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney)

5. Elizabeth (The Paper Bag Princess by Robert N. Munsch, illustrated by Michael Martchenko)

6. Rapunzel (Rapunzel: Based on the Original Story by the Brothers Grimm by Sarah Gibb)

7. Tommy (The Art Lesson by Tomie dePaolo)

8. Hugo Cabret (The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick) Using Hugo is kind of a cheat but he won the Caldecott, he can count for this.

10. Bear (A Story for Bear by Dennis Haseley & Jim LaMarche)

  1. I’ve only read The Invention Of Hugo Cabret — which was AWESOME might I add. I agree that Hugo is a fantastic character, I quite liked his growth.

I’ll have to check out the other picture books when I have a kid. 🙂

I love your genre choice, how unique. and that’s a great list of characters. kelley—the road goes ever ever on

  3. I love that you used picture books. I love PBs. Iktomi is very cool. My favorite trickster is probably Anansi, though. He just cracks me up.

Also, The Pigeon from Mo Willems’ books! Again, he cracks me up!
