Booking Through Thursday: Contemplation

Booking Through Thursday

A meme from Booking Through Thursday.

Today’s topic is “So … you’ve just finished reading a book. For the sake of the discussion, we’ll say it was everything a book should be—engaging, entertaining, interesting, thought-provoking. The kind you want to gush over. The question is—do you immediately move on to your next book? Or do you take time to contemplate this writerly masterpiece and all its associated thoughts/emotions/ideas for a while first?”

Like so many things it varies.  I like to contemplate.  Sometimes I talk certain parts of a book out with Ben even though he didn’t read them, or I just sit and mull them over.  Often I dive right into the blog post, thus my tendency towards stream of consciousness type writing.  The discussing with Ben and the mulling then just happen as part of the writing.  I like doing it that way because I feel like then the blog gets my truest reaction.  When I reflect on any moment in the book good or bad I can’t forget to put it in the post because I’m already doing it.  As far as when I move onto the next book… well obviously with this method I don’t immediately dive into the next book.  Though there are exceptions.  Sometimes I am desperate to get back into something.  It’s not even usually the desire to continue a series and stay in the same world.  Rather I am just so much enjoying not being in reality that I want my stay here to be as brief as possible.  Sometimes I almost rush through the blog post to get to the next book, other times I will put off the blog post in order to start another book.  Once I’m a little bit in the fear of reality will dissipate long enough for me to post.
