Booking Through Thursday: Anticipation

Booking Through Thursday

A meme from Booking Through Thursday.

Today’s topic is “Do you still get excited about new books as you did when you were little? In general? New books in particular, like from a favorite author? Or do you look at all new, unread books with the same level of anticipation?

I didn’t really get excited about “new” books in that sense as a child. New to me was when something I hadn’t seen before showed up at the tiny bookstore in the mall. Sometimes they were actually new, sometimes they weren’t. I never knew about actual new books until I happened to stumble over them at the store. I don’t really know that I can compare then to now as far as reactions.

Now I read about books very early in their conception. I read blogs from authors I like and know tidbits about the next secret project. I hear about upcoming titles from other book bloggers. With the authors I love usually I end up buying the book, but sometimes not until paperback.  With the new books sometimes I lose interest before they even make it to shelves. I think in some ways I get more excited about books that I have known about and wanted to read for ages, where as new books lose their luster more easily.

  1. I still get really excited when I stumble across a new book or author that I haven’t heard of before the same as I did as a child. However, I think blogging has changed at least in a small way how I look at “new” books.
