Booking Through Thursday: Favorite?

Booking Through Thursday

A meme from Booking Through Thursday.

Today’s topic is “Do you have a favorite book? What do you say when people ask you? (This question always flummoxes me because how can you pick just one, so I’m eager to hear what you folks have to say.)

And, has your favorite book changed over the years??”

I just scream at the top of my lungs and run away.

No, but really I hate this question. I have favorite books, lots of them. I usually tend to answer the question with books by Tamora Pierce or Robin McKinley because they are high on my scale but not as well known as folks like Neil Gaiman. I will sometimes alter my response based off the person. If it it is someone with whom there is opportunity for longer conversation I might give several and talk a little about why I really like those. If it is someone I am trying to make an impression on I might be more likely to use Gaiman because it is more “adult” and being recognizable leaves less questions. If I don’t like the person and don’t care about making an impression I might just tell them how obnoxious of a questions I find it, heh.

My favorite book has definitely changed over the years. That is why I never use it as a password hint! I think that through elementary school it was probably a question I could answer with a single book at the time. Middle school probably as well, it is mostly a gray period where I can’t remember exactly what I read except for a few specifics. I mainly remember that is when I read Children of the Night because I still have the assignment I wrote on it. High school and especially college was when I really started to realize… I LIKE THEM ALL! Now I accept just how much it depends on: what I have read recently, my mood, my level of sentimentality and who I am talking to.
