It seems kind of silly for a book about writing to leave me at a loss for words but I can’t describe it any other way.  Lamott speaks to the writer in me in my own language.  There is both an optimism and a realism that is hard to describe.  She doesn’t make aspirations to glory only to doing your best.  My mother who put the book in my hands has begun work on a jar of mice to set on my desk as a reminder and I feel other quirks will develop because this is not a book I will read once.  As soon as I closed it I wondered how many months or weeks I would go before I opened it again.  There will be times when I read it from cover to cover again but there will also be times when I turn to a specific chapter or open it at random.  I also am intrigued to read more in Lamott’s unique voice.  My advice is for any writer to read this as a  reminder of what it is all about.
